Southend's Adam Sutton has that resigned look about him as St Kevin's Boys go 4-0 up.
For the second week in a row a Southend team made their exit from an underage national competition. The previous Sunday their Under-17 team lost to Carragline in the semi-final and last Sunday in Ballybeg the club’s Under- 14 side put up a brave display against the powerful St Kevin’s Boys outfit from Dublin who had that little bit of extra class and deserved their passage into the last four.
St Kevin’s set their stall out early and the Southend goalkeeper was called into action after six minutes, saving from Gavin Boyne. Three minutes later the visitors from Dublin scored the opening goal. Right full-back Aaron O’Neill took a throw-in which was picked up by Conor McDonald and his cross was beautifully drilled to the net by Eric Komeni from 10 yards.
The Dubliners, who played in tangerine, the normal colours of Southend, doubled their advantage on 15 minutes. Aaron O’Neill slipped the ball to Dylan Murray who crossed low into the penalty area and the unfortunate Adam Farrell sliced the ball past his own goalkeeper Sam O’Neill.
Southend fought back and when Adam Sutton hit a high ball into the St Kevin’s penalty area Samuel Ogayemi shot at goal but his effort was deflected away at the expense of a corner kick.
