Waterford United made it three wins from three games played on Friday night when they defeated Derry City in the wind and lashing rain. Following on from victories over Wexford Youths and Cork City, the Blues went into this match in a confident frame of mind and they duly delivered another very composed display. They now sit proudly at the top of the league table with maximum points, having scored six goals and conceded none.
Manager Stephen Henderson and the supporters could not have asked for more.
Next up for the league leaders is a visit to Drum this coming Saturday for a match against pointless Salthill Devon and the following week it’s back to Galway once again to play Mervue United. Despite the terrible weather conditions on Saturday last both sides did their best to produce good football and they succeeded. Waterford dominated the opening 45 minutes playing with the advantage of the strong breeze. Derry had a lot of possession in the second half but they never really made Chris Konopka work between the posts.
Overall this was another super display from a Waterford United team who are playing with great confidence right now. Liam Kearney, who joined the Blues from Derry City, scored the only goal of the game and needless to say he enjoyed his opportunist strike in the 12th minute.
