Waterpark’s return to Junior Rugby may well prove to be the best thing that’s happened the club in a couple of seasons.

The past few AIL campaigns have been miserable for the Ballinakill club, with league wins proving rarer than hen’s teeth.

Two seasons ago, the club’s senior status was maintained thanks to some rule-breaching by a Monivea side that swept to victory when visiting ‘Park’s home paddock in a promotion/relegation play-off.

The 2008/09 campaign was even more testing for Waterpark, who propped up Division Three without a single victory to their name after 15 rounds of attrition-heavy football.

Facing into Munster J1, the club has stripped down and gone back to basics – and in so doing have attracted back some familiar faces to playing ranks.

With a strong pre-season behind them, there’s room for optimism about the Ballinakill side’s chances for the campaign ahead, which kicks off on October 18th when the play host to Ballincollig (3pm).
