As excitement builds in the run up to this year’s Waterford Writers Weekend, which will take place on March 18th, 19th and 20th, a controversy has arisen over the changing of the name from ‘The Sean Dunne Writers Week’.
A number of writers and people associated with the Arts have voiced anger and disappointment that the Waterford-born and St John’s Park-raised Sean Dunne’s name has been dropped from the Festival and, according to some sources, the late writer’s family and friends are less than pleased.
One member of the public who contacted The Munster Express was Martina Collender from Lyre, Kilmacthomas, who has accused those responsible for changing the name of being ‘insensitive’.
I think it is a great pity if Sean’s name is to be removed. Why is this being done and what is it intended to achieve? Answers please from the person responsible!
Disgrace, his book In my father’s house documents Waterford in the ’70s. Shame on the festival.
