Clare definitely looked the better balanced side during the first half with corner-forward, Mark McCarthy looking extremely dangerous. They tagged on excellent points from play through Kevin Larkin and David Ryan and looked as if they were going to swat Waterford aside with relative ease.
Despite being under the cosh in the first half, Waterford did keep themselves in the game with points from John Wall and Eoghan Walsh. Wall and Veale in particular in the corner-forward positions looked very dangerous for Waterford.

The Waterford Junior Football team qualified for the Munster semi-final with a fortuitous victory over Clare in the early game at Fraher Field last Sunday.
The turning point came seven minutes into the second half when Clare half-forward Paddy Clancy was given a straight red card for a challenge on Michael Crotty. At the time Clare led by four points but following Clancy’s dismissal they could only score one more point as Waterford used the extra man to their advantage.
