For years residents near the old CBS site in Tramore have complained about ongoing anti-social behaviour.

Despite continuous calls to address the issue, nothing seems to have been done. Raising the problem again at the December meeting for the Metropolitan area, Independent Councillor Blaise Hannigan said: “I’ve been asked by the residents next to the CBS in Tramore to bring this up. There are portacabins on that ground at the moment. It has been closed for the past number of years”.

“It’s been broken into on a monthly basis, drinking has been observed there on a regular basis. The guards go up and down without any success, two weeks ago they set one of the portacabins on fire so that the fire brigade had to come out,” Cllr. Hannigan said.

“So the residents are asking, with this area set to be used by a developer in the future, could we contact the owner and ask them to remove the portacabins?

“With the plans to develop this area they have to be removed in the future anyway,” he added.

The old CBS site was vacated in 2014 when the girl’s secondary school amalgamated with the boy’s school.

Fine Gael Councillor, Lola O’Sullivan, offered her support to Cllr. Hannigan on this issue, saying that a number of councillors have tried to get it addressed without any success.

“I would like to support Councillor Hannigan in relation to the CBS, it is frustrating because this has been going on for a number of years. It’s a different Councillor every time and it’s really frustrating, and more frustrating for the poor unfortunates that have to live near it,” Cllr. O’Sullivan said.
