A man charged in connection with the assault of his father who later died, was refused bail at a court appearance.
John Cashman, aged 73, died following an incident outside his home in Cappagh near Dungarvan shortly after 6.00 pm on Monday, 13 April, after suffering serious injuries.
His son, John Cashman Jr, aged in his 40s, with an address at Rockfield, Cappagh, was arrested at the scene and later charged with assault causing harm.
He appeared before Judge John O’Leary at a sitting of Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Wednesday, 15 April.
Detective Garda Martin Keohane gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said that the accused made no reply to the charge.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Eamon Hayes made a bail application. Bail was opposed by Gardaí.
Judge O’Leary refused bail and remanded the accused in custody to appear again before Clonmel District Court next Tuesday, 21 April.
