At a time when bars continue to close around the country, public houses and night clubs in Waterford city are being re-opened and revived in a welcome bucking of a post-boom trend.
On the back of Waterford Crystal’s re-birth on Tuesday, news of the sale of some of the city’s most popular bars to new, high-profile owners offer further signs of local ‘green shoots’ emerging.
The Munster Express has learned that Ruby Lounge, Ruby’s Night Club, The Woodman, Muldoon’s and Oxygen have been sold to south-east based owners, the McLoughlin family, proprietors of the Dinn Rí, Carlow.
It is understood that the owners have ambitions plans to revamp this significant chunk of the city’s social scene in “an unprecedented manner” according to selling agent John Rohan.
“The owners have incredible plans for their new acquisitions,” he said. “They come to Waterford with a superb track record in the licensed premises and hospitality trade.”
Mr Rohan added: “There was massive interest expressed in these premises both locally and right across the country, so I’m not too surprised that a new owner was secured in a relatively short timeframe.
“And to see so much interest being expressed in Waterford city was also tremendously encouraging from the local market’s perspective. So let’s hope there’s further good news to come for the Waterford market.
