Praising Waterford City and County Council at the launch of An Garrán, James Browne, Minster for Housing said that these kind of developments are not happening in every county, but they are in Waterford.

“We get a lot of negativity on housing,” said Minister of State and Government Chief Whip, Mary Butler, at the same event, “but there are developments like this being delivered all over the country on budget and on time with no drama.

“It’s the human story behind 50 new homes, so many families, so many children, I just met some of the residents of the houses there and what it means to them, they’ll be able to plan for their Christmas tree and Santa Claus will be able to come,” she said.

“We’re delivering housing like this all over the country, on time on budget the work has just been happening quietly, and that’s what we want to do as a government, just continue to build homes for families.”

The ministers thanked local firm Nevin Construction for their work on the development.

Also speaking at the launch, Minister of State for the Department of Housing, John Cummins, said, “Days like today don’t just happen…It was less than two years ago that we stood over there and turned the sod on this project, 50 A-rated homes here for individuals and families.”

“Waterford City and County Council are doing tremendous work in trying to accelerate the delivery of their own homes, with over 550 in the pipeline at the moment and obviously working with other delivery partners like approved housing bodies and the land development agency to improve that even further.”
