The Presentation Secondary School are to be congratulated for choosing a 2002 stage musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, based on a 1967 movie of the same name. The transition year students delivered a first rate show with strong performances and characterisations, with excellent costumes, great dancing and a clever functional set from Mark Scanlon, their musical director and painted by Mami Shimonagia, Jane Heffernan, Erina Bonk and Valerija Tretjak.

This show tells the 1920s story of small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York to marry not for love but for money. Her escapades are wonderful and exciting, mixing flapper and jazz dancing, parties, socialites, show dancers and white slavery at the Hotel Priscilla, where you have to tap dance to activate the elevator.

Hayley O’Brien was splendid in the role of Millie and she wowed a first night audience, with her confident acting, dancing and full-voiced singing. Once again, another star emerges from a school show. She was a thoroughly wonderful Millie.
