It is said that Robert Louis Stevenson got the idea for Treasure Island while listening to sailors in a pub called the Llandoger Trow on King Street in Bristol and that Captain flint was named after the cobble stones in that same street.

So, it was partly that legend as much as the idea of an open-air production of Treasure Island in that historic street in Bristol by Bristol Old Vic and the fact that there was a harbour festival going on as well that could best be described as a Tall Ships Festival without the tall ships that attracted me.
