ComeraghCleanUpEaster Monday saw crowds of civic-minded litter pickers out in force around the Comeraghs once again this year. Following a wet day during last year’s event, the weather was more favourable for the 2013 Comeragh Clean-Up which is organised by the Comeragh Community Development Group and is now in its 15th year.
A huge amount of litter was collected yet again, showing that there are still plenty of people out there who are willing to thoughtlessly discard their unwanted items. However, we can console ourselves with the fact that there are also plenty of people intent on keeping the countryside looking spick and span.
A lack of vegetation growth this year meant some areas which had previously been overgrown during the annual clean-up could be accessed more easily this year. As a result, some unusual discoveries were made including forty-year-old car parts in one particular area in Ashtown, Kilmacthomas.
