Our problems are indeed small and insignificant when viewed through the filter of the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami. I watched the television footage early on Friday morning and then again on Saturday and by Sunday I stopped watching altogether and just listened to news bulletins on the radio instead. We’ve seen plenty of disasters since the turn of the millennium; Thailand, Haiti, Indonesia and most recently New Zealand.
