10KieranColumnTHE past few weeks have blatantly highlighted that parish pump politics is alive and well at the very top of Irish political life. Some may say that this isn’t any revelation as it seems to have always been the grounds on which politics in this country has operated. I’ve been asked numerous times lately about my own political allegiance.
I don’t express any preference for any political party – a decision made on both a personal and professional level. However, if I lived in Britain or America I know where my allegiance would lie as the political parties are clearly distinguishable through their ideologies. Here at home they all seem the same and we’re only fooling ourselves if we think the historical factors which once distinguished one political party from another still apply. The main reason as to why I’m indifferent to party politics in Ireland is due to the issue of ministerial representation.
