Charging the phone: a necessity and a bugbear!

Most people with mobile phones have experienced a situation when their battery ran out at a very inconvenient time.
For years we were told not to charge the phones too often and, if possible, let the battery run right down.
Well, those instructions were not correct so the following hints may prove helpful to readers.
1: Regular overnight charging does not damage your smartphone. Your device cannot be overcharged and when it is plugged in and fully charged it simply switches to external power.
2: Every time you charge your iPhone up from 90%, you’re using 10% of a complete charge cycle. This means you could charge your it up from 90%-100% a total of 5,000 times before you’d have to worry about running out of charge cycles.
3: If you deliberately drain your battery to zero and then recharge it, you’re needlessly using up a complete charge cycle. Obviously if you’re using your iPhone until the battery goes dead that’s fair enough but there’s no need to deliberately drain it before recharging it. To do so will actually shorten your battery life.
