A Waterford man was recently handed a court fine for driving with no insurance.
Patrick Anthony Moran (48) with an address at 9 Priory Lawn, Ballybeg, Waterford, pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance relating to an incident where he was stopped by Gardaí at Sunrise Crescent, Lisduggan, Waterford on 22 March of this year.
At a recent sitting of Waterford District Court, it was heard that on the day in question, the accused was stopped by Gardaí, and was found to be driving with no insurance and unaccompanied while using a learner permit. His vehicle was later seized by Gardaí
The court was also told that the accused has 49 previous convictions, including 13 road traffic matters, with the most recent matter having taken place in 2010.
Acting for the accused, solicitor Hilary Delahunty stated that his client was driving from one end of a street to another, as he was moving the vehicle from a family member's house due to an issue with the clutch. He asked Judge Kevin Staunton to consider not issuing a disqualification, highlighting the amount of time that has passed since the accused last appeared before the court.
Judge Kevin Staunton handed down a €500 fine for the matter, and did not disqualify the accused. The driving while unaccompanied matter was taken into consideration.
