A young motorist was fined for driving with no insurance at a recent sitting of Waterford District Court.

Ciara Joanna Ross (20) with an address at 10 Cuirt na Chlochair, Waterford pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance after she was stopped by Gardaí on the R675 near Ballyscanlan, Waterford on 15 May, 2025.

Acting for the defendant, solicitor Kenneth Cunningham outlined to the court that the defendant had missed an installment on her insurance payments, which led to her policy being voided without her knowledge. He highlighted that Ms Ross has no previous convictions, was “fully cooperative with Gardaí” at the roadside, and pleaded guilty to the offences at the “earliest opportunity possible.” She is currently working part-time to support herself.

Judge Miriam Walsh handed down a €300 fine for the driving without valid insurance charge, but did not disqualify the accused. A separate charge of failing to produce a valid insurance certificate to Gardaí within 10 days was taken into consideration.
