Parking in a disabled bay cost a man €300 at Waterford District Court this month, after he told Gardaí he would rather go to court than pay a fixed charge penalty notice.
Gary Dooley, with an address at 82 Rockenham, Ferrybank, Waterford, made no appearance at a court sitting before Judge Kevin Staunton this month, for an offence of parking in a disabled bay without a valid permit.
The court was told that on 21 April, 2025, the accused had parked his vehicle in a disabled parking space at Lady Lane, Waterford City. Gardaí spoke to him at the scene, and he was ‘adamant’ that he would not pay a fine for the matter, and instead go to court. A fixed charge penalty notice that was issued to him went unpaid.
Despite his non-appearance, it was stated that he had been informed of the date of the court summons.
Judge Staunton convicted the accused in his absence and handed down a €300 fine.
