It has been announced that four new Gardaí will be allocated to Waterford, following the attestment of 167 new An Garda Síochána members at a ceremony in Templemore on Friday 6 February.
Minister for Mental Health & Government Chief Whip Mary Butler welcomed the fact that three of the new Gardaí will be assigned to Waterford City, while a fourth will be sent to Tramore.
“I am really pleased to announce that the Garda force in Waterford is going to be further reinforced by four new recruits who have just graduated from Templemore. Three of these Gardaí will be deployed in Waterford City with one in Tramore,” said Minister Butler.
“This further expansion of the Garda force in Waterford follows two recent announcements, culminating in 13 new Gardaí for the county. In November [2025], eight new Gardaí were announced, six in Waterford and two in Dungarvan. In August, five new Gardaí were also announced, three for Waterford and two in Dungarvan.
“As a Minister representing Waterford, I want to welcome the 17 new recruits from Templemore assigned to the Déise in recent months and wish them well as they start out in their Garda journey,” she said.
“They should be very proud of their chosen career path. I’m sure these new Gardaí will be keen to engage with locals and become an active and visible presence within their communities,” Minister Butler added.
