The decimation of the heritage sector appears all but guaranteed given the savage cuts imposed upon it courtesy of the December 8th Budget.
Given that many local authorities have been forced to put their heritage-related initiatives on the shelf due to the ongoing staffing embargo, crucial work which could create and sustain employment has been lost.
And when one considers that the Waterford City Archive received just €3,000 in heritage-related funding last year (for the Annie Brophy Photo Exhibition), it’s clear that problems lie ahead.
