Waterford Gardaí are appealing for assistance with a number of incidents that occurred over the past week.
It was a busy weekend across the city and county and with Spraoi in the city and the All Together Now Festival in Curraghmore Estate, Portlaw. Gardaí have said that both events were without significant reported incidents.
However, there were arrests for public order, drunkenness offences and an increased number of detected offences for possession of controlled drugs throughout the city and county.
Burglaries
Gardaí are investigating a burglary which occurred on Friday 31 July just after midnight at Tesco Extra Ardkeen, Waterford City. A Garda spokesperson said that a male wearing a grey hoody and black trousers stole items from the store, after smashing a large pane of glass to gain entry to the store, which was closed but had staff present. The male left in the direction of Faronshoneen Roundabout. If you were in the area and could assist please contact the crime unit at Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300.
A second burglary incident occurred in Osbourne Terrace, Bonmahon on Thursday 30 July. Gardaí received a report stating at a time between 7.00pm and 8.30pm, the house was entered through the rear of the property and a handbag with wallet, cash and cards was taken. Criminal Damage
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an incident of criminal damage to a car in Dungarvan over the Bank Holiday weekend. A Garda spokesperson told The Munster Express: “A silver 08 WD Volkswagen Polo, which was parked on the Youghal Road in Dungarvan overnight from 1 August 3.30pm to 2 August at 10.30am, had its rear window smashed during this time. If you observed anything that would assist the investigation, please contact Gardaí at Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600.”
Increase in driving while intoxicated
Separately, Gardaí have reported that recent arrests in Waterford city and county have shown an increase in detection for driving while intoxicated. There were 13 arrests for this offence from 24 July to 3 August, with four of these drivers found to have consumed alcohol above the legal limit. The remaining nine motorists tested positive for either cocaine, opiates, cannabis or benzodiazepines. A spokesperson said: “There is no safe level for the consumption of these drugs while driving.
