A 16-year-old girl is recovering at Waterford Regional Hospital after being shot in the stomach area on Monday night, the latest incident in an ongoing feud between local Traveller families.
Gardai were alerted to what they believe was a pellet gun attack at the Bilberry halting site around 10.35pm. The girl was found to be suffering from gunshot wounds and taken to WRH and her injuries are not thought to be life threatening. During a subsequent garda search a burnt car was discovered in the Gracedieu area and this has been brought to Waterford Garda Station for technical examination. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.
This is the second teenager to be shot since the feud erupted several weeks ago. Earlier this month a 14-year-old boy suffered multiple pellet wounds after he was shot outside his home at Ardmore Park, in Ballybeg.
Two men were arrested an taken to Ballybricken Garda Station at midday on Tuesday following a traffic collision at the Cork Road. Nobody was seriously injured in the incident.
Meanwhile gardai are also appealing for witnesses to a fracas on Manor Street at 1am on Tuesday in which a member of the force was injured. Gardai were alerted to a disturbance in the area and a number of people were subsequently arrested at the scene for Public Order offences. Waterford Garda Station can be contacted on 051 – 305300.
