A man who was in possession of a knife while also being “intoxicated and argumentative” recently had his case brought before Waterford District Court.

Przemyslaw Lezucha (46) of 20 O’Brien Street, Waterford, was charged with being in possession of a knife in public, contrary to Section 9 (1) and (7) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990,  relating to an incident that occurred at a takeaway in Ballybricken, Waterford city, on 10 December 2025.

The court heard that on that date, Gardaí were called to the takeaway after they received reports that a man there was “intoxicated and argumentative.” It was also alleged that the man, who was identified as the accused, produced a knife in a “threatening” manner.

Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham outlined that the charge was for possession of a knife, and not production.

Judge Kevin Staunton decided to accept jurisdiction in the case, and put it back to 24 February next, where it will be mentioned again.
