A young man was driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on the R710 Tramore road last year, the District Court heard.
Keelan Dunne (25) of 17 Meadowbrook, Tramore, Waterford, appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton at a recent sitting of Waterford District Court, where he pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit of a regional road.
The court was told that on 1 May 2025, Gardaí were operating a speed checkpoint on the R710 Tramore road when they encountered a vehicle that was driving 133 km/h in an 80 km zone. The accused was identified as the driver, and a fixed charge penalty notice that subsequently issued to him went unpaid.
It was noted that the accused has six previous convictions, with four being road traffic matters that were unrelated to speeding.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham said that the accused is reliant on his licence as he recently started a job as a HGV driver, and has young children at home.
Judge Staunton handed the accused a €500 fine for the matter.
