Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan
Hundreds of people participated in the special event which began in Ballybricken at 3pm.
The procession made its way through the city’s streets, with Benediction taking place in John Roberts Square in beautiful sunshine.
Bishop of Waterford & Lismore Alphonsus Cullinan, who carried the Blessed Sacrament in the procession, said the event was a great success, adding that he has received very positive feedback.
He paid tribute to all of those who had contributed to the success of the Corpus Christ procession, including An Garda Siochana, Civil Defence, City of Waterford Brass, all those who participated in the choir, Waterford City & County Council, Mary Halligan of Group Link, Danny Browne on sound and the core group of lay people who had originally approached him with the idea of staging the procession.
People from throughout the diocese attended the procession as did many different priests.
Bishop Emeritus William Lee was also in attendance, as was Mayor of the Waterford Metropolitan District Cllr Eamon Quinlan.
Bishop Cullinan said he hopes the event will return “bigger and better” next year.
In many different countries, processions were held to mark the Feast Day of the Body and Blood of Christ.
