The local music community was in mourning this week, as news filtered through of the sudden death of talented young keyboard player Jamie (Jay) Barden.
The twenty-eight-year-old was found dead at a house in Ferndale in the city on Tuesday morning. He is understood to have died from natural causes.
Mr Barden, of The Pines, Ballinakill, was the only son of Jean Barden and Doug Foley. A former pupil of De La Salle College, he was well known on the local live music circuit and played with a number of bands, including Shane Barry and The Distractions, Rubber Soul and Fighting Spiders.
Jay was a legend, an immensely talented musician, hilarious wit and a good friend to all who knew him. He’ll be very sadly missed.
To Jean Barden and Dougie Foley and your families I extend my most sincere condolence on your sad loss. My thoughts are with you at this time.
