humpbackAlmost a year to the day since the spectacular breaches off Hook Head, a Humpback whale has ventured into the waters off the Waterford and Wexford coasts.
The whale was spotted to the west of Dunmore East on Sunday during a trip to the Saltee Islands by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG), with Martin Colfer skippering.
Andrew Malcolm of the IWDG tells the story best. “After circling the boat in the area in which Martin felt the whale was most likely to be for about 10 minutes, a small group of dolphins was spotted a few hundred metres away and as we watched them a humpback surfaced and tail-fluked amongst them.”
