The above headline is the title of a hugely entertaining new book from Mullingar based author and journalist, Ronan Casey, about unusual stories that have appeared in regional newspapers in recent years.
Ronan, who reviews the regional newspapers every week for Ireland AM on TV3, first made his name as a reviewer with Hector Ó hEochagáin on RTE’s 2FM Breakfast Show.
Needless to say, there are a couple of offerings from The Munster Express in ‘Medium Sized Town – Fairly Big Story’ that is published by Gill and Macmillan with a recommended retail price of €10.99.
At its launch, Hector Ó hEochagáin said Ireland’s wit and charm was evident throughout and described the book as ‘a window on the real soul of Ireland, a snapshot of the way we were, the way we are and, hopefully, the way we always will be’.
Now a much sought after freelance writer for a number of national newspapers, Ronan spent over ten years working with The Westmeath Examiner/Celtic Media Group. He is also the author of a critically acclaimed best-selling biography of the late Joe Dolan.
Ronan’s father, Seamus, was Joe’s manager throughout the singer’s career. Ronan’s latest book is very funny and would make a great Christmas stocking filler, especially for anybody living away from home. Highly recommended.
