Waterford’s new City Manager is to be Mr. Michael Walsh from Ballyduff Upper, current Director of Planning, Culture and HR Services with the City Council.

Mr. Walsh, a former county hurler, has risen through the engineering ranks in the public service. He was an Executive Engineer with Waterford County Council before moving to Limerick as Senior Executive Engineer. He came to Waterford City as Senior Engineer before becoming Director of Planning and Environment and was then further promoted to his present position.

In his forties, he is married with a family. He hurled for the county alongside his brother Mossie in the early 1980’s and managed Waterford’s intermediate side to this year’s All-Ireland final.

The appointment has been made by the Public Appointments Service and it now only remains to be ratified by the Council membership. That is expected to be done at the Council’s monthly meeting next Monday evening.

Mr. Walsh succeeds Meath man Mr. Conn Murray who recently transferred to County Louth after four years in the post. In the interim, Mr. Paddy Power, Director of Housing and Corporate Affairs, has been Acting Manager.
