With Kilkenny County Council coming out the better of the judicial review process initiated by their neighbouring local authority in Waterford, hopes were high that work would start immediately on Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
Unfortunately, this has not been the case.
Speaking at the latest council meeting for the Piltown, south Kilkenny area Director of Services Ian Gardner explained that Kilkenny Council had contacted Dunnes Stores but are yet to receive an update or any indication regarding when work is likely to begin.
He also explained that Kilkenny Council made themselves available to provide any assistance, should it be needed.
Cllr Pat Dunphy commented that they had high hopes that the work would begin in 2026, but that is looking less likely as time goes on.
He said it was ‘disappointing’ there was still no date in sight, and asked Ian Gardner to contact Dunnes again. The director agreed to do so.
