A peaceful candlelight demonstration  ‘Standing Together for West Waterford’ will be held at The Square, Cappoquin, this Friday 24 October, 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

The demonstration is being held in the wake of the recent violent incidents in Cappoquin and is being organised by local Sinn Féin Councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy and Deputy Conor D. McGuinness.

In a post on his Facebook page, Cllr. Mulcahy stated: “We will come together as a community for a peaceful candlelight demonstration of support and solidarity”.

“This is about showing that violence and intimidation have no place anywhere in West Waterford. We stand united for safety, respect and peace in all our towns and villages.

“I’ve been in touch with numerous people across West Waterford over the last few days, as well as with the family of the person injured. I continue to raise serious concerns about Garda numbers and visibility across the region,” Cllr. Mulcahy said.

“People deserve to feel safe walking their streets and we must send a clear message that this sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable. There must be zero tolerance for violence or antisocial behaviour and we cannot simply move on and forget.

“This is about standing up for one another and making it clear that West Waterford will not be defined by fear, but by community and solidarity.”

Cllr. Mulcahy added: “All are welcome to join this peaceful demonstration. Please bring a candle and let’s show what community really means”.
