Samaritans Waterford and South East are holding a major fundraising even, a mid-summer gala ball on Saturday 14th June 2025 at The Haven Hotel, Dunmore East.
They are hoping that the local business community and all our local friends and supporters will come and join for what promises to be the event of the summer.
A fantastic night is in store with a prosecco reception on arrival, a four-course meal, dancing to the one and only Copperhead Road 7 piece band and finishing up with a disco from the amazing DJ Rick Whelan!
So, gather your friends, your families, your colleagues and come out for a fantastic night whilst supporting a very necessary charity. All money raised at this event will remain locally and will help to keep our doors and phone lines open 24/7.
Tickets available from box office at Theatre Royal or www.theatreroyal.ie.
Geraldine Guiry of Samaritans Waterford told the Munster Express “Samaritans are a suicide prevention charity. We provide a non-judgemental service to those struggling with their mental health, addiction, abuse, depression or thoughts of suicide. Samaritans provide a free 24-hour helpline for those feeling overwhelmed, stressed unable to cope or at risk of suicide. We encourage people to talk as well as self-determination, as it’s their decision. Everyday our volunteers provide emotional support for all who need it, ensuring that nobody has to face their darkest hour alone.
We also provide the ‘Outreach’ programme to schools all around the city and county. We talk to teenagers about bullying, self-harm, peer pressure, mental health etc and provide a safe environment for them to talk. We also set up a stall in factories to offer our services as well as attending festivals around the country. This is very beneficial to give employees a little bit extra support as they can be under so much pressure. Individuals under the influence of alcohol or substances can avail of our service at festivals and we signpost, providing them with further contacts to support them if needed. A follow up call is also offered to communicate with individuals after going through a dark time.
Our ethos is that everyone is the same in our eyes and we give our undivided attention and lend an ear to all. We provide a fully confidential service where calls cannot be traced. All of our volunteers work on a non-profit basis, they are ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
Samaritans Waterford are currently recruiting new volunteers as many were lost due to covid, there are lots of roles available and is “an extremely rewarding duty”
