The scoring exploits of Seamus Barry inspired Passage to County Junior Hurling (attached) Final victory in the curtain raiser to Sunday’s Senior Final at Walsh Park.
Throughout the course of the hour, little if anything separated the sides and if the game had ended in stalemate, few in attendance could have found complaint.
Darren Guiry opened the scoring for Fourmilewater in the second minute, which met with Niall Troy’s response from a free four minutes later.
Declan Spellman, who’d gained deserved plaudits for his medical intervention the previous Saturday at Fraher Field, plucked a great ball from the air to assist Aidan Ryan in restoring Fourmilewater’s lead.
Two minutes later, David Ryan stretched their advantage from a 65 but just beyond the quarter-hour mark, Seamus Barry (free) and Joe McCleane restored parity.
The ding-dong nature of the tie remained in place and two points at the other end via the hurls of Ger and Patrick Walsh put the men from the west back in front.
On the stroke of half-time, Seamus Barry dispatched another free to leave the minimum between the sides at the break.
