De La Salle came from behind to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Coláiste Na Deise in Gracedieu last Wednesday afternoon. It was a late cameo from Ballygunner star Pauric Mahony that saved the day for the 2006-’07 champions after Coláiste Na Deise used the strong wind to mount their own second half own comeback.

In all honesty, De La Salle should have been out of sight before half-time in this game. Three first-half goals in as many minutes looked to have sealed victory for the city-based school but they seemed to take their foot off the pedal after this and let the westerners back into the game.

In the early stages Eamonn Murphy was wreaking havoc among the Coláiste Na Deise defence, causing consternation every time he got the ball. At times, Murphy was a little bit selfish with possession but on the occasions when he did bring his colleagues into the game, the effect was devastating.

In the 9th minute, with the scores level at 0-2 apiece, Murphy skinned his marker and played a clever pass across to Harley Barnes. With the goal at his mercy, Barnes did not need a second invitation to rattle the ball into the net.
