Michael Garland will head up a new structure with Waterford United

Michael Garland, the CEO of “bizBoost” will head up a new structure which has been put in place by the local club.
The well known Scot has a vast amount of experience in the business community of Waterford and he is a former Chamber of Commerce chairman.
Mr Garland attended a meeting with the management committee and the manager Roddy Collins in the Woodlands Hotel on Monday, September 5th and details of what unfolded will be announced following the final game of the season against UCD at the RSC on Saturday 17th.
Speaking about the new set-up, Roddy Collins expressed his satisfaction about the future plans of the club. “I attended the meeting and it was extremely productive and I was very very happy with what was presented on the night. The structure of the club at the moment is just not right and it had to be revamped. Don’t get me wrong there is a lot of goodwill within the club but that is not enough so it’s great that Michael Garland has put a new structure in place. I am currently recruiting players for new season and I want those players coming to a good place. I put my presentation to the board and we all agreed this is the correct way to go. We are holding an information night following the UCD game in the hospitality room at the RSC and it is also be an occasion to thank the supporters and the general public who have supported us this season which was gruelling in many ways. Tom Murphy for example provided me with a car and Pat Lynch in the Woodlands has been fantastic as have lots of other people. Quite simply the public needs to know where the club is going. I love transparency and I would like to think I am the same with players. I have been in professional football for 36 years and 22 years as a manager and I believe this is the best opportunity Waterford has had for a long time given the facilities, the location, the airport and the general infrastructure available here.
There is also a deep rooted love for football in the city and county and with Michael Garland now on board it will be a case of working 24/7 from here on in. Usually it’s a case of pulling down the shutters when the last game of the season is played but that won’t be the case now. I believe this is a club for the future and I’m really excited about what is happening. Of course it’s a chicken and egg situation because you have to have a good team on the pitch also but if the structure is right the players will be happy and that adds up to a good situation both on and off the field”.
