Bohemians went into Friday night’s game as red-hot favourites, not only to win this first round game but also to enjoy yet anoter long run in the provincial cup.
Bohs reached the final last season and were a little unlucky to lose that decider to Cork City after extra time. The Ben Wadding Park side have been in top form since the outset of the league season and in their previous game they had defeated Villa 4-0.
Ferrybank have made a habit of defeating previous beaten finalists as they had knocked out Waterford Crystal last season also, so they came into this game without any real fear. Their management team set the team out to play on the counter attack and the policy of getting plenty of players back, and then striking on the run paid off.
The visitors looked dangerous from set pieces all night and it came as no surprise that the winning goal came from a late free kick taken by Kevin Hurley. On this display, the Ferrybank side could carry the Waterford League banner for quite a while this season in the Munster Youth Cup.
