Almost a third of all of Waterford City Council’s tenants are currently in mortgage arrears, The Munster Express had learned.
In reply to a question tabled by Sinn Féin Councillor David Cullinane, Waterford City Manager Michael Walsh has revealed that 125 of the Council’s 410-strong tenant purchase accounts currently feature arrears running to 90 days or more.
In total, these accounts currently owe Waterford City Council a total of €385,000, with 34 of those accounts now in debt for over a year.
While six repossession warrants have been issued, it is understood that a stay has been placed on three of these, while the Council is actively pursuing the other three.
