Overall, last week proved a little how helpless our nation has become. We wrote about the bank bail-out last week funded by us the taxpayer for many years to come. The community response to the emergency weather was also weak. Some organisations did very well, especially the public transport companies, who won new friends with many using the Bus Eireann, Kenneally’s and Irish Rail services. For those that did not want to drive, the drivers and managers kept the schedules going as best as possible.
Waterford City Council and the National Roads Authority did very well keeping as many roads open as possible. The staff on Waterford City Council did their very best to keep many routes free, attend to water outages and the hospitals also performed very well, with staff showing up even though it was very hazardous. Local radio station WLRfm did a good job on weather information for the schools.
