The Waterford footballers found the step up in class too much to handle as they were unceremoniously taken apart by a rampant Wexford side at Wexford Park on Sunday last.

In many respects, Waterford were the architects of their own downfall as they made far too many individual errors which allowed Wexford duo Ciarán Lyng and Ben Brosnan the opportunity to raise green flags.

Although the driving wind and rain didn’t help, Waterford’s handling let them down on far too many occasions, with Wexford proving more adept at holding onto possession when they got it.

Wexford played with the wind in the first half and although they enjoyed the bulk of possession, they often wasted it as several long balls eluded their forwards and ran out over the end-line.
