Guts, determination, bravery, courage and a downright refusal to give up! These were all in evident as Waterford’s minor hurlers held on to their Munster title after coming back from the dead, not once but twice in Pairc Ui Chaoimh last Saturday evening.

With the last puck of the game in normal time, captain Pauric Mahony stood over a 21-yard free ten yards to the right of the goal, knowing that only a goal could save his side. That Mahony had the wherewithal to find a way through the massed ranks guarding the Cork goal says a lot about the skill of the young Ballygunner star. Then once again, when time was almost up in extra-time, Mahony fired over an awkward free out on the right-hand side that gave the Decies a replay in Waterford next week.
