The new household tax is very unpopular and could put many government TD seats at risk in next election.  How the tax is calculated will also cause concern.
The initial method is the best they can do at the moment, it seems. The lack of breakdown on bedrooms in houses will mean that some will pay less than others.  Older houses will pay same as newer ones, which could be more valuable.
Overall the tax is not that high compared to Northern Ireland but they have lower vat rates there and more household services.  Starting another tax in these difficult times is not welcome.
We can see why they do it as they need the money and the IMF are forcing their hand. But doing it in better times might have been more advisable.
