A new judge was recently appointed to District Court Area 21, which covers West Waterford, East Cork and South Tipperary.
Judge John O’Leary is originally from Enniscorthy, and has been working as a moveable District Court judge since his appointment in May 2019. He previously worked as a solicitor for 36 years in his local area.
Judge O’Leary will be formally presiding over District 21, which covers court sittings in Dungarvan, Lismore, Youghal, Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel and Cashel. His appointment came after former Judge Brian O’Shea resigned in July to return to practicing as a barrister in both the Circuit and High Courts.
Judge O’Leary was formally welcomed by representatives of the Courts Service, members of An Garda Síochána and Tipperary Solicitors Bar Association at a sitting of Carrick-on-Suir District Court in October.
Judge O’Leary is a law graduate of University College Dublin (UCD), and became a partner at his firm Frizelle, O’Leary & Co Solicitors in 1986.
