Vinny Sullivan takes the plaudits after opening the scoring against Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Finn Harps; Waterford United 1

Waterford United went into this game last Saturday in Ballyboey clear in the knowledge that a win would have moved them to within three points of the joint leaders Shelbourne and UCD who had played out a two each draw 24 hours earlier.
A win would also have moved them ahead of third-placed Sporting Fingal who were also held to a draw by Monaghan the previous night. Things were going according to plan when Vinny Sullivan put the Blues in front early in the second half but on the hour mark they switched off completely and allowed the home side grab an equaliser which could prove very costly indeed come the end of the season.
Just how important the two points dropped will be will not be known until later next month. This was a game Waterford should have won, especially as the Donegal outfit had been leaking bags of goals prior to this contest but Waterford simply did not have the power up front to really trouble the home side.
